FAQs

How much does editing cost?

1

That depends on the project. When I give a quote, it is based on word count and the specific type of editing. However, my fees are on the lower end of EFA’s editorial rates.

How long will it take to edit my manuscript?

2

Again, it depends on the project and the type of editing. My turnaround times are usually between 2 and 3 weeks. But if I’m heavily editing a 160,000-word epic fantasy, I will probably need around 4 weeks.

How do I know what type of editing my manuscript requires?

3

The correct order is: developmental editing —> line editing —> copy editing —> proofreading. I don’t offer developmental editing, but I do offer what I call a light version: manuscript evaluation.

If you are unsure what type of editing your manuscript needs, we can determine it together.

How can I prepare my manuscript for editing?

4

I use Track Changes, so the manuscript should be provided in an open file (MS Word, Google Docs). The industry standard is 12-point Times New Roman, double-spaced, 1-inch margins on all sides (top, bottom, left, right).

Do you offer a sample edit?

5

Yes, I offer a free sample edit of up to 1,000 words, preferably from somewhere in the middle of your book, since the first chapter tends to be more polished. You can request a sample edit here.

AI Policy

I don’t accept projects that have used generative artificial intelligence (AI), including large language models (LLMs). AI usage includes writing your manuscript, translating it from another language into English, or using AI to “improve” or “enhance” your writing. I strongly believe any human writing is inherently better than software-generated text.

Additionally, I don’t use generative AI (including LLMs) in any way when evaluating or editing a manuscript. I am human, and I connect with your work on a deeply human level. That’s the beauty of creativity. The process is the best part. We can learn from each other and grow together.
